Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 2, 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Beacon Digital, LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and discloses your personal information when you use the Beacon web application and Beacon Browser application (collectively, the "Service"). The Service is a parental awareness tool that summarizes and explains video content watched by your children.

We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully as it will help you understand what we do with the information we collect.

2. Definitions

  • Service: The Beacon web application at joinbeacon.io and the Beacon Browser application (iOS + Android), including all features, functionality, and content provided by Beacon Digital, LLC.
  • Parent/User: The adult (parent or legal guardian) who creates a Beacon account and uses the Service. "You" and "your" refer to the Parent/User.
  • Child: A minor whose viewing activity on YouTube, YouTube Kids, and TikTok is monitored through the Service, as designated by the Parent/User.
  • Personal Data: Any information that directly, indirectly, or in connection with other information allows for the identification of a natural person.
  • Watch Data: Video titles, channel names, watch duration, and timestamps collected from a child's viewing activity on YouTube, YouTube Kids, and TikTok.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Account Information

When you create a Beacon account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • First name
  • Password

3.2 Child Profile Information

When you add a child to your account, we collect:

  • Child's first name only (entered by you, the parent)
  • Child's date of birth (entered by you, the parent), used to compute the child's age group for age-appropriate content analysis

We do not collect the child's last name, email address, phone number, physical address, Social Security number, or any other personal identifier.

3.3 Watch Data

We collect watch history data through Beacon Browser, installed on your child's device by you, the parent. The browser captures the URL and page title when your child navigates to a video on YouTube, YouTube Kids, or TikTok. Only video URLs and titles are captured — no other browsing activity.

Watch Data consists of identifiers of videos (titles, channel names, timestamps), not identifiers of the child.

3.4 On-Device Data (Beacon Browser)

When using Beacon Browser:

  • Captured watch events are stored temporarily in a local database on the device.
  • Data is synced to Beacon servers over an encrypted connection at regular intervals.
  • Watch data is removed from the local buffer after successful sync.

3.5 Information We Do NOT Collect

Beacon does not collect, and has never collected, the following:

  • Location or geolocation data
  • Contacts or address book data
  • Photos, videos, or audio from the device
  • Microphone or camera data
  • Browsing history outside of YouTube, YouTube Kids, and TikTok
  • Activity in any app or website outside of YouTube, YouTube Kids, and TikTok
  • Device identifiers or persistent identifiers tied to the child
  • Cookies on the child's device
  • IP addresses of the child's device
  • The child's Google account credentials

4. How We Use Your Information

Beacon Digital, LLC uses the collected data solely to provide and maintain the Service:

  • To generate AI-powered summaries and theme analysis of YouTube, YouTube Kids, and TikTok content your child has watched
  • To identify content that may need your attention as a parent
  • To compile daily and weekly digest reports for you
  • To maintain your account and authenticate your access
  • To send you email notifications about your account (password resets, service updates)
  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues

We do NOT use your data for:

  • Advertising or targeted marketing
  • Sale to third parties
  • Profiling or behavioral tracking
  • Any purpose unrelated to providing the Beacon service to you

4.1 AI Processing

We use third-party AI services to analyze video content and generate parent-facing narratives. The information sent to these services depends on the feature:

  • Per-video summaries, theme analysis, and channel descriptions: Only the individual video or channel content (title, transcript, metadata) is sent. No information about your child is sent for these features.
  • Daily and weekly digests, monthly profiles, and conversation starters: To generate personalized narratives, we send your child's first name, age group (computed from date of birth), and the list of videos watched in the period. We do not send the child's date of birth, last name, or any other identifier.

Our AI service providers process this content under contractual restrictions limiting use to fulfilling the analysis requests we make. The content is not used to train their models.

5. Beacon Browser Permissions

Beacon Browser requests the following permissions, each used solely for watch-event capture and sync:

  • Internet: To load websites in the browser and to sync watch events to Beacon servers over HTTPS.
  • Post Notifications: To display a background sync status notification.

Beacon Browser does not request Accessibility Service, Device Admin, or Notification Access permissions. It does not access other apps on the device.

6. Data Sharing and Disclosure

6.1 We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your Personal Data or Watch Data to any third party for any purpose. We do not share your data for advertising purposes.

6.2 Service Providers

We use a limited number of third-party service providers to operate the Service:

  • AI analysis: Video content (not child identity) is sent to AI services for summarization.
  • Email delivery: Your email address is shared with our email service provider solely to deliver account-related emails to you.
  • Payment processing: If you subscribe to a paid plan, your payment information is handled by our payment processor. We do not store your credit card number.
  • Hosting: The Service is hosted on cloud infrastructure. Your data is stored on servers in the United States.

These service providers have access to your data only to perform tasks on our behalf and are contractually obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

6.3 Legal Requirements

Beacon Digital, LLC may disclose your Personal Data if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court order or government agency), or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to:

  • Comply with a legal obligation
  • Protect and defend the rights or property of Beacon Digital, LLC
  • Prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Service
  • Protect the personal safety of users of the Service or the public
  • Protect against legal liability

6.4 Business Transfers

If Beacon Digital, LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your Personal Data may be transferred. We will provide notice before your Personal Data is transferred and becomes subject to a different Privacy Policy.

7. Data Security

The security of your Personal Data is important to us. We implement the following measures:

  • All data is encrypted in transit
  • Passwords are never stored in plain text
  • All connections between Beacon Browser and our servers are encrypted

While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Data, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Specifically:

  • Account data: Retained until you delete your account.
  • Child profiles and Watch Data: Retained until you delete the child's profile or your account.
  • On-device data (Beacon Browser): Watch events are removed from the local buffer after successful sync to our servers. Authentication tokens are removed when the device is unpaired.

When you delete a child profile, the child's watch history (which videos were watched and when), daily and weekly digests, monthly profiles, conversation starters, mute preferences, and paired device tokens are permanently removed from our database. When you delete your account, all data associated with your account — including all child profiles and their data, your parent feedback on flags and summaries, your subscription record, and your authentication tokens — is permanently removed.

AI-generated content (per-video summaries, channel profiles, and video metadata) is stored as a content cache keyed to the video or channel itself, not to any child or parent. Because these records contain no identifier of you or your child, they are retained after account deletion to avoid regenerating analysis when other families watch the same videos. Anonymized usage and analytics records (with all parent and child identifiers removed) may also be retained for service operation.

9. Children's Privacy

Beacon is designed for and directed to parents, not children. Children do not create accounts, log in, or interact with the Beacon web application. Beacon Browser is installed on the child's device by the parent or legal guardian. The child uses Beacon Browser as their browser for YouTube, YouTube Kids, and TikTok; the monitoring aspect operates in the background and the child does not interact with account management or data.

We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children as defined by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The data we collect about children (first name and YouTube, YouTube Kids, and TikTok watch history) is provided by or authorized by the parent. First name alone is not personally identifiable information under COPPA. Watch Data consists of video identifiers (titles, channel names, timestamps), not identifiers of the child.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child without parental authorization, please contact us immediately at [email protected] and we will take steps to remove that information.

10. Your Data Rights

10.1 All Users

Regardless of your location, you can:

  • Access your data: View all data collected about your child through the Beacon dashboard and digest pages.
  • Delete child data: Remove a child's profile from the Children page. This permanently deletes the child's watch history, digests, monthly profiles, mute preferences, and paired device tokens. See Section 8 for what is retained as content cache or in anonymized form.
  • Delete your account: Delete your entire account from the Settings page. This removes your account, all child profiles and their data, your parent feedback, your subscription record, and your authentication tokens. See Section 8 for what is retained as content cache or in anonymized form.
  • Export your data: Request a copy of your data by contacting us at [email protected]. We will provide it in a structured, commonly used format within 30 days.

10.2 California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act provides you with additional rights:

  • Right to know: You can request what personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources from which it was collected, the business purpose for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
  • Right to delete: You can request that we delete your personal information. You can do this directly from the Settings page or by contacting us.
  • Right to opt out of sale: We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your data for advertising or marketing purposes.
  • Right to non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.

To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond to verified requests within 45 days as required by the CCPA. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.

11. International Data Transfers

Your information, including Personal Data, is transferred to and maintained on servers located in the United States. If you are located outside the United States, please be aware that your data will be processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. Your use of the Service and submission of information constitutes your consent to this transfer.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting a prominent notice on the Service or by sending you an email prior to the change becoming effective. We will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this Privacy Policy. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

13. Contact Us
