Frequently asked questions,
answered honestly.
How Beacon works today, what we don't yet do, what's coming next, and how we think about your kids' privacy.
Section 01
Getting started
What is Beacon?
Beacon is content intelligence for kids' screen time. We summarize every video your kid watches on YouTube, YouTube Kids, and TikTok with plain-language summaries, theme tags, and severity-labeled concern flags, so you can see what they're actually absorbing without watching every video yourself.
Which platforms does Beacon cover?
YouTube, YouTube Kids, and TikTok today. Kids browse those services inside Beacon Browser, a free app for iOS and Android. Watch events sync to your parent dashboard automatically.
Does Beacon work with the apps my kid already uses?
No. Kids need to browse YouTube, YouTube Kids, and TikTok inside Beacon Browser (a free iOS and Android app) instead of the native apps. Capturing what was watched requires our own browser. Once installed, watch events sync to your dashboard automatically.
How is Beacon different from Bark or Qustodio?
Bark and Qustodio operate at the container level. They alert on apps, sites, and messages, and limit screen time by category. Beacon operates at the content level. We tell you what's actually in each video your kid watches. They answer "was TikTok used today and for how long?" We answer "what was the kid actually watching, and was it the kind of content you'd want to see more or less of?" Today that's information. The roadmap is using that information to make finer-grained control decisions than container-level tools can.
Section 02
How it works
How accurate are the summaries?
Summaries describe each video factually, capturing what's actually in the content. We don't give parenting advice or imply judgment; the interpretation is yours. Concern flagging deliberately errs on the side of under-flagging because a false alarm destroys trust faster than missing a mildly concerning video.
What kinds of content does Beacon flag?
Violence, profanity, sexual content, substance use, dangerous behavior, mental-health concerns, hate speech, predatory tactics, harmful misinformation, AI-generated junk, and thematic inappropriateness for the child's age. Each flag is labeled high, medium, or low severity with a short factual reason.
Do you block videos?
Not today. Beacon's current focus is helping you see what's actually being watched. Traditional parental controls are on the roadmap: app and website blocking, screen-time limits, per-channel allow / restrict, and in-browser break reminders. Once those manual controls are stable, content-driven automation follows: auto-restricting apps during weeks dominated by low-quality content and granting extra time during weeks of educational content, using the same content signal you already see in the dashboard.

Pricing
How much does Beacon cost?
Free forever for 1 child with a shared timeline and 100 videos per month. Pro is $14.99/month or $149/year and unlocks unlimited children, full per-video summaries, concern flag details, channel profiles, daily email digests, and a 500 videos/month cap. New signups get a 7-day Pro trial.
Can I use Beacon for more than one child?
Free plans support 1 child. Pro plans support unlimited children, all sharing the 500 videos/month processing cap.
Section 04
Privacy
How does Beacon handle privacy?
Watch history is stored on the parent's account and never shared. Video summaries are generated by third-party AI services (disclosed in the privacy policy). You can delete your account and all associated data at any time, and we'll surface deletions across our cache promptly.

What's next
Where Beacon is heading
Understand first. Then control with confidence.
Understand
Every video your kid watches on YouTube, YouTube Kids, and TikTok gets a plain-language summary, theme tags, and severity-labeled flags. You see what they're absorbing without watching every video yourself.
- Per-video summaries and concern flags
- Daily & weekly email digests with conversation starters
- Monthly profile: viewing patterns, top topics, interest shifts
- Creator and format breakdowns
Control
Traditional parental controls layered on the intelligence foundation. Manual blocks and limits ship first; auto-actions driven by the content signal mature as the data backs them up.
Manual controls
- App and website blocking
- Screen-time limits and break reminders
- Per-channel allow or restrict
- In-browser wellbeing nudges
Content-driven automation
- Auto-restrict apps during low-quality weeks
- Earn extra time during educational weeks
Roadmap items are not yet shipped. Order and scope may change as we learn from real usage.
